Choomalaka Festival & Feast

Deep within the collective heart of St Virgil’s beats a pulse, a spark, a crackle of creativity!

Mark Friday 22 September in your calendars and be a part of this showcase displaying the talents of our boys and the spirit of the College. This year, the event continues to grow to include even more to see, do and eat!

Further information will be shared on the website, social media and in The Star newsletter.

Location

The 2023 event will highlight even more of our expansive Austins Ferry campus. We will  not only showcase our undeniable SVC spirit and talent at Choomalaka, but  also some of our new facilities!

Food Trucks

Fried & Loaded, Davey Street Garage, Robbie's Woodfired Pizzas and Ruby & Ava have been confirmed for Choomalaka! Loaded fries and po'boys, dumplings and bao buns, woodfired pizzas and a selection of hot beverages will complement the P&F food stalls. Thank you again to our Parents & Friends Association for arranging these additional food options.

Compost Bins

Generously donated by Veolia, compost bins will be at the event! Please be responsible for your waste and use the bins with bright green lids for food waste, serviettes and compostable plates and cutlery. If you are unsure which bin to use, our friendly parent volunteers will be on hand to help.

Refillable Water Bottles

In efforts to reduce waste, please bring your own refillable water bottle to the event. A water fountain can be found in the Callan Centre courtyard (where you will also find our P&F food stalls) or ask at the Boomalaka Bar/specialty shake stall for a refill.

First Aid

First Aid will be located on the upper level of the Doyle Wing. Our Food Stall volunteers can also contact our First Aiders directly if required.

Coins and small notes are requested. EFTPOS facilities are also available.

2022

The wet weather on Friday 23 September didn't discourage our students and families at Choomalaka Festival  & Feast.

A variety of choral and band ensembles were on display as expected, along with an even greater offering from Drama, Science and Technology.

This year's event was moved to the Joyce Performance Centre (including the new Music and Rehearsal Spaces on the lower level) and a 'Feast'  aspect implemented, thanks to the work from our Parents & Friends Association.

The specialty shakes from hospitality classes continued to be a big hit!

2021

A capacity crowd of 1 000 gathered on Friday 10 September 2021 for the inaugural Choomalaka Festival.

Families were immersed in the spirit of St Virgil's - through sound, light, colour and movement. Entertainment include performances from the stage and concert bands, Junior School bands, choirs, solo artists, light and movement installations, and a series of drama productions. The Edmund Rice Hall was adorned with breathtaking artwork to delight guests of all ages.

The Boomalaka Bar proved popular, with the VET Hospitality and Coffee, Cafe and Catering teams serving delicious Oreo, salted caramel and neapolitan milkshakes, and hot beverages. What a learning experience for the students, who showed grit and persistence to meet demand. Kangaroo, venison and marinated chicken sliders, and hot sausages straight off the barbecues were savoured by the hungry crowd.

Thank you to the staff and students who spent countless hours preparing for and performing at this magnificent event. We are looking forward to see what the event holds in 2022!
