Sport at St Virgil's

Welcome to Team sVc

St Virgil’s College has a rich tradition of excellence in sport and believes that sport plays an integral part in the growth and development of boys within our context as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition. Participation in sport is an important part of life at St Virgil’s College as it contributes to the academic, social, emotional and physical development of young men.

An important part of the co-curricular offerings at St Virgil’s is the provision of an educationally sound sporting program. The strong sporting history and fine traditions of the College are built around involvement and a spirit of working together. Each student is recognised for the contribution he can make and respect for individual abilities is emphasised; teamwork and commitment are valued.

Sport provides boys with healthy recreational and competitive opportunities which enables them to form close friendships with their peers and respectful, positive relationships with teachers and coaches, in the process instilling the values of working together with others to achieve common goals. Students of all ages and abilities can work together to develop skills, self-confidence and resilience, at all times guided by the College’s core values of Community, Integrity, Justice, Kindness and Learning.

Participation

In line with the Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) touchstone of Inclusive Community the College is committed to ensuring that all boys that wish to play sport will be given an opportunity to do so. Boys playing sport for the College are supported by quality coaches to ensure that learning and development opportunities are maximised. St Virgil’s participates in a wide variety of competitions that cater for all boys within an inclusive developmental program. At all times we respect our fellow players, our opponents and the officials.

For different sports and different year levels, teams may be allocated evenly or graded into divisions based upon experience and skill development. Each term, the College will call for registrations with a view to participating in competitions run by peak sporting bodies and the Sport Association of Tasmania Independent Schools (SATIS, SSATIS and JSATIS).
